Mayor names faith, cultural advisers
Winnipeg’s mayor will bring residents of various faiths and cultures together to help tackle key city challenges.
Mayor Scott Gillingham said the new multi-faith and culture liaison circle will create partnerships to address societal issues, such as homelessness, hunger, and inequity.
The group is expected to provide insight on the outreach and delivery of city programs and identify education options for municipal staff and citizens.
“It’s about ensuring voices from our diverse faith and cultural communities are heard and have a role in shaping our city’s future. It takes advantage of the established networks that exist in these communities,” said Gillingham, in a press release.
The members of the committee have been chosen based on expertise in faith and culture. They include Jamie Arpin-Ricci, Ruheen Aziz, Samayod Bong, Sandy Chahal, Rev. James Taylor Christie, Manju Lodha, Allison Marshall, Elder Norman Meade, Lawrence Mulhall, Dana Lynn Rogalsky, Rabbi Kliel Rose, Nadia Thompson, Payam Towfigh, Sister Lesley Sacouman and Catherine Wafula.
