Suspect arrested in November 2022 fatal shooting
Police in British Columbia have arrested a Winnipeg man wanted in connection with a November fatal shooting.
In a Sunday release, Winnipeg police say the arrest was related to a shooting that happened in the early morning of Nov. 5, 2022 in the 200 block of McDermot Avenue. A 21-year-old man who’d been shot was taken to hospital in critical condition but later died. He has been identified as Tristan James Raynard Asham of Winnipeg.
Police say the shooting took place after the suspect and the victim and their two respective groups were involved in a confrontation that escalated into a fight.
The male suspect fled to British Columbia immediately after the incident, police said.
Investigators determined the man was in Langley, B.C. and obtained a warrant for his arrest. On June 22, the B.C. Combined Forces Special Enforcement Unit arrested him. He was then flown back to Winnipeg to be processed.
Shiv Austin Harper, 20, of Winnipeg, is charged with second degree murder and other offences. He remains in custody.
Winnipeg police thanked the Surrey RCMP, Langley RCMP, and the combined special forces unit for their help in the release.
The police’s Homicide Unit continues to investigate. Anyone with information or video footage or who may have been present during the incident is asked to contact investigators at 204-986-6508 or Crime Stoppers at 204-786-8477 (TIPS).
